The life and times of an anti-social intellectual

Well even the best of plans.... I ended up reading about 20 pages in "Erasure" and watching one movie. "I still know what you did last summer" was a poor sequel but at least Jennifer Love Hewitt looked better here than in the first one.
I got the sudden urge to watch some "old" WWF and I started watching the famed "Invasion" show from July 2001. The official kick-off of the whole WCW/ECW invasion (hence the name. Clever people work there you see). I hadn't watched it since I first got it and I didn't remember much about it so time for a retro review of it. For those who don't know I pretty much write reviews of all the wrestling I watch except the weekly WWE television.
So today I may go on with the mid-2001 WWF stuff. I will definitely get more reading done today...if everything goes according to plans.

Damn I'm having an energy rush like never before today. It's only 9:40 and I've already taken a shower and done some laundry. In an hour or so I have to go to the post office to ship off some DVDs for a friend and then pick up my ticket for "Kill Bill vol. 1" which opens next Friday. I have high expectations when it comes to "Kill Bill" because let's face it - it's Quentin Tarantino. Some are calling it his best movie. I can't imagine any movie being better than "Pulp Fiction" but we'll see one week from today.
Other than that my Friday will consist of reading (hope to finish "Erasure), watching some wrestling and a movie or two. Feel free to do the same.
Wrestling lost yet another legend today (technically it was yesterday but meh...). Stu Hart passed away. He was in his late 80's so his death is a bit more acceptable than some of the other recent deaths in wrestling. Still, I send a thought to the already troubled Hart family.

Only 3 days remain of the Fall break. I only have 2 classes next week so I guess the "break" continues. Also, I don't know if you can call it a break. I'm still reading, watching TV and sitting in front of my computer so it's basically a normal week just without classes :-) I'm reading "Erasure" by Percival Everett. Another tremendous book so far.
I got two books today from Amazon's market place that I need to use for my exam project in Southern literature. I'm studying family as a theme in books by Josephine Humphreys. For my contemporary literature class I'm gonna study how technology (with focus on the TV/media) plays a role in the books we've read. I'm still a bit lost about my topic of interest in my Developing America class. We've talked a bit about the mega malls in America and how these have become almost theme parks and how they try to give the consumers a sublime experience. To me that's interesting so I think it'll be something in that area.

For some time I've been wanting to read Don DeLillo's latest book "Cosmopolis" but I haven't found the time. So after I finished "Empire Falls" yesterday I thought, "what the hell", and started reading it last night and I just finished it. It's a quick read as it's only 209 pages. It's a typical DeLillo novel with all the usual topics such as technology, death and identity. Also, DeLillo is a master as making small, everyday things matter. In "Cosmopolis" the main character wonders about such things as sneezing and why we stop our car at a red light.
"Cosmopolis" is not DeLillo's best novel. Of the books I've read by him, "White Noise" and the masterpiece "Underworld" are my favorites and some of the best books I've ever read. By the way, "Cosmopolis" is dedicated to Paul Auster, my other favorite American writer who I wrote about in my BA project. Overall, I'd give "Cosmopolis" a 7/10 rating.

Last night I watched "I know what you did last summer". I think I watched it back when it originally came out on video but I'm not sure. A few weeks ago I bought a deluxe box set (geek alert!) with both "I know..." movies, and last night I finally watched the first one. Overall, a very enjoyable movie with a lot of good scares (more than Scream 2 and 3 combined). Certainly one of the better teen slasher movies of that time.

I finally found out how to make some links on this page. So a link to my DVD collection has been added.
I finished Richard Russo's "Empire Falls" which turned out to be the second best book I've read this semester. Not as good as "Underworld" but better than "Blonde". "Empire Falls" is tremendously well-written and would make a great movie I think. It's funny, exciting and near the end it does a 180 and surprises its reader completely. Get it now!

I got my very first parking ticket yesterday. No better way to spend 510 kroner that I can think of. It is, however, entirely my own fault as I parked in 30 minute zone and left my car there for little over an hour. Ah well, learning the hard way I guess.

I'm sick :-( Yes, great timing now that I finally have my Fall break. I spent most of Saturday under a blanket watching TV or reading. I watched a couple of movies. Scream 3 which was better than the 2nd Scream but not as good as the first one. Texas Chainsaw Massacre with commentary was great. I look forward to seeing this movie on the big screen in early November when several cinemas celebrate the 30 year anniversary of Texas Chainsaw. Finally, I ended my evening with Matrix Reloaded. Still as awesome as the first time I watched it :-)

I finally got myself a cell phone. I've been against getting one for many years but it got to be too expensive for me to have my regular phone with subscription and shit. So I got myself a cell phone and I'm already getting hooked on the SMS thing. I try fighting it but I can't help it.

Otherwise, not many plans for the Fall break besides reading and relaxing. My parents and perhaps some other family members will most likely come by during the week and I might go back to Horsens with them (if my flu will go away by then).
