The life and times of an anti-social intellectual

I hope "Delta Wedding" is finally out of my life. Unfortunately, it has a lot of important themes in relation to Southern literature so I fear it's not entirely out of my life just yet :-( I started reading William Faulkner's "Go Down, Moses" last night. It's a bit confusing at times due to a lot of strange family relations in the book but it's been good so far. Certainly better than "Delta Wedding"!
The DVD craze is back and I have "Scream 2", "Blair Witch Project" and a "I know what you did last summer/I still know what you did last summer" collector's edition coming next week. I will dub it Teen Horror Movie Week 2003.
The annual "årsfest" is this coming Friday at the university and I'm not going. First of all, I would rather spend my money on other things (read: DVDs). Secondly, I don't really feel like going. And finally, I have to go back home to visit my parents (unless plans change again).
My weekend will be like most other weekends. Reading and relaxing! Maybe I'll be able to combine the two, who knows. I have a short presentation this Monday in my contemporary literature class where I have to present a review of Don DeLillo's "The Body Artist". I have found a good review and I plan to spice it up with a few of my own observations about the book and DeLillo's style in general. I used to fear presentations, but I'm actually looking forward to this one since I love DeLillo :D

Finally I managed to get to end of "Blonde". I hope to finish "Delta Wedding" today as well. Looks like it will be another weekend of reading as I have Richard Russo's "Empire falls" and William Faulkner's "Go down, Moses" for next week as well. After "Empire Falls" I have "So far back" in my contemporary literaure course. Since I already read that in my Southern literature course I have a bit more time to get through "Empire Falls". I must say I'm looking forward to the 1 week holiday coming up soon :-)

I decided to start collecting the Olsenbanden DVDs so I ordered the 7th movie "Olsenbanden på sporet" yesterday. Should arrive today. I plan on having as many of the Olsenbanden DVDs on my wishlists for my birthday and Christmas. "...på sporet" is still my favorite in the series though along with "...går amok" and "...ser rødt".

Even though I'd told myself not to watch it I still ended up in front of my TV Sunday for the Big Brother kick-off on TvDanmark. I'm also watching Robinson and Idols on TV3 - it is indeed reality TV heaven this fall. Also, I watched the first episode of TV2's new court drama series "Forsvar". While a bit too American at times I enjoyed it and look forward to following it.

It finally happened - I'm getting tired of "Blonde". It's still a great book but at this point I just want it to end so I can get on with other books! Ah well. I only have one class tomorrow from 10-12 so I hope to get a lot of reading done after that. Of course, I also need to finish "Delta Wedding". It was actually interesting today in class when we discussed the book. My teacher, Jan Gretlund, made it seem like one of the most interesting books ever and I sat there wondering if I was actually reading the right "Delta Wedding". Maybe there's a different version. "Delta Wedding - the new breed" or something like that.

Finally, I pre-ordered two DVDs today namely Matrix Reloaded and The Lion King (both released around the 10th of October). I also bought The Texas Chainsaw Massacre last week. I hadn't seen it before but it was actually great. Not gory at all like I expected but totally insane and without morals of any kind. Also, it was incredible to see how the movie was filmed and edited. Really something to behold. I didn't think it was all that scary though.

This semester is turning out to be the best so far. I really like my 3 courses and the reading for all, thus far, has been interesting and enjoyable. However, there is one exception namely Eudora Welty's "Delta Wedding" which I'm reading at the moment for my class about Southern literature. A great book should capture its reader in the first few pages (for more, see my BA project about beginnings in Paul Auster's books :-)) With "Delta Wedding" every page is a struggle. There have been some enjoyable pages, mostly consisting of dialogue but overall the book is boring and poorly written. I'm 140 pages into this 250 page cure for insomnia and frankly I don't see how I can get myself to finish it. I'm still wrestling with "Blonde" and I have about 220 pages to go. The good thing about having 2 literature courses in one semester: always something to read. There's nothing like finishing a 940 page book only to go on to the next book in the pile. I'm not looking for pity by the way....
